Kazakhstan’s Automotive Industry Shows Record Growth and Strengthens Its Position in the Manufacturing Sector

Kazakhstan’s automotive industry continues to reinforce its role as one of the country’s key industrial segments. According to ranking.kz, the sector demonstrates steady growth and contributes significantly to the development of the manufacturing industry.
Over the past decade, the share of the automotive sector in manufacturing has increased more than fivefold — from 1.4% in 2015 to 7.8% in 2024. As of January–October 2025, the figure stands at 7.1%. Today, automotive production accounts for 40.5% of Kazakhstan’s total machinery output.
Production volumes are also expanding rapidly. From 80 billion tenge in 2015, the industry surpassed 1.9 trillion tenge in 2024. In the first ten months of 2025, the output of vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers reached 1.7 trillion tenge — a 23.9% increase year-on-year. The physical production index reached 113.3%.
The rapid growth is linked to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s strategic focus on strengthening the manufacturing sector. The automotive industry has become one of the key drivers of this goal, creating added value, qualified jobs, and technological capabilities.
Regional production structure
The Kostanay region remains the leader, producing 879.6 billion tenge worth of output in January–October 2025 — more than half of the country’s total. The region manufactured 68.3 thousand passenger cars and 2.1 thousand trucks. The industrial cluster continues to expand: Allur is increasing localization, including CKD assembly of Jetour models, and the new KIA Kazakhstan plant with a capacity of 70,000 units per year has begun operations.
Almaty ranks second with 577.7 billion tenge in output. Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan and Hyundai Trans Almaty produced 43.7 thousand passenger cars, 277 trucks, and 159 buses. The new multi-brand plant Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan, with a capacity of 120,000 vehicles per year, is also operational.
Enterprises in the Karaganda, Abai, Akmola regions and Astana contribute to the stable growth of the sector. In January–October 2025, Kazakhstan produced 123.6 thousand units of automotive equipment — 15.4% more than in the same period last year.
Long-term outlook
Over ten years, automobile production has increased more than tenfold — from 11.6 thousand units in 2015 to over 120 thousand in 2025. The launch of new production facilities and the expansion of existing ones indicate that total industry capacity could reach up to 465,000 vehicles per year.
The automotive sector generates a strong multiplier effect: a components production center for KIA is being built, the Tengri Tyres plant with an annual capacity of 3.5 million tires is operating, and a car seat manufacturing facility has opened in Almaty. The sector stimulates metallurgy, chemicals, electronics, textiles, and polymer production.
